Baptism

What is Baptism?

“Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.”

The Book of Common Prayer, page 298.

Who is it for?

Grace-St. Paul’s offers baptism to everyone at any age. Once a person is baptized, he or she is a full member of Christ’s Church forever. Baptismal celebrations are for the entire Church as it also witnesses the commitment, promises support to the candidate, and grow in community together.

*If you are coming from another denomination and have been baptized, your baptism remains valid and efficacious; in this case, look for “Reception into the Episcopal Church” in the section on “Confirmation.”

When are Baptisms?

Traditionally, Baptisms are celebrated as a part of the regular celebration of the Holy Eucharist, four times per year:

  • Easter Vigil (Saturday)

  • Pentecost

  • All Saint’s Day

  • The Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (first Sunday after Epiphany)
