Matthew 18:12-14: “What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.”
It is reassuring to remember that God will search for you if you go astray. But there is more to these verses than that – it’s a reminder that we need to care for the “little ones”. Those who have been thrust to the margins by society cannot be lost to the faith. We are called to watch out for them and bring the Good News to the ears of all who need to know God’s love. Pray that we have strength to act in this way.
Are you in the 99 who wait for the return of the shepherd? Unlike sheep, we are called to be the hands and feet of the Shepherd in this world. How can you help reach those around you who may be lost?
